7:25 Hold It Against Me

02-18-20_7-41-48 PMCason sighed as he watched Kyndall napping. She had come home from her meeting with the professor upset and he had made her tell him what was wrong. He wished he hadn’t forced it from her, but he is also glad he did.

He was beyond pissed by what happened. He wanted to go to the university and give that professor a piece of his mind…with his fists. He knew he would be kicked out of school for that though. If he was kicked out, he wouldn’t be able to protect Kyndall from creeps like that professor.

He softy kissed her cheek so he wouldn’t wake her then went downstairs. He sat at the table with Bryan.

Bryan looked at Cason seeing that something had him pretty upset. “What’s up? Kyndall okay? I saw her run straight from the door to the room when she came in.”

02-18-20_7-44-27 PM

Cason shook his head as he sat down. “She’s not alright. Something happened that has her very upset.”

Amira sat down with the two guys. “What happened?”

Cason told the two of them what Kyndall had told him. He could feel himself getting angry all over again.

“She needs to report him. If he’s done this to her, there has to be others.”

Bryan nodded agreeing with his sister. “Maybe the others will come forward when they hear that he’s still doing it.”

Cason shook his head. “The choice is for her to make. I agree that he needs reported, but she needs to do it herself. Right now, she doesn’t want anybody else to know. She won’t even call her parents and tell them.”

02-18-20_7-47-19 PM

“Her parents need to know though. Her father will make sure the professor is dealt with.”

Bryan looked at Amira when she pulled out her phone. “Amira, you know the rumors about her dad and grandfather. Do you think we should tell them?”

Cason looked at Bryan. “Do you think those rumors are true?”

Bryan shrugged his shoulders. “Do you want to be the one to find out?”

7:24 Faith

02-16-20_10-42-58 PM

Kyndall hadn’t expected to find Professor Dickson’s office so informal. Most of the other professors had their officers stuffed full of books and things for their class. Professor Dickson’s office had the desk and books, but there were also snacks, drinks, and a sitting area.

Kyndall found Professor Dickson sitting in the chair in the sitting area.

“Have a seat, Miss Powell.” He waited until she had sat down before talking again. “I am assuming that  you are here to discuss your grade on the project?”

She sat and nodded. “I don’t feel that the grade you gave me was correct.”

He looked at her for several seconds before speaking. “You do not feel that you should have received a failing grade on the assignment.”

02-16-20_10-44-16 PM

Kyndall nodded again. “I worked hard on that project. Everything that was on the rubric was covered. I don’t understand what was wrong with it.”

Professor Dickson listened quietly as she detailed all of the elements that were required and that she had included in her project.

“I agree that the assignment that you turned it was very well thought out and well done.”

She looked at him confused. “Then I don’t understand why you gave it a failing grade.”

02-16-20_10-45-10 PM

He moved to sit beside her. “I know you can do better. You did a good job on the assignment and covered everything I asked you to. I think you could give more though.”

Kyndall was confused. “Like what?”

“Kyndall, your studen file says you are in the pre-med classes. That means you hope to become a doctor, correct?”

She nodded, not sure where he was going with this conversation.

“If a patient walked into your office would you hand them a bandaid or would you dig deeper into the reason they are there?”

She frowned as she listened. “Of course I would find out why they are there. A bandaid cannot fix everything.”

“Exactly, Miss Powell. Including only the basic information in your project is the same as the bandaid. It does not tell why the information is useful or important.”

Kyndall thought about all the work she had put into the paper. She knew that it was more than just basic information, but she could also see that arguing with him about it was not going to get her anywhere.

02-16-20_10-47-34 PM

“May I have a couple days to redo the project?”

Professor Dickson shook his head. “I’m sorry. If I did that for you, I would have to do it for everybody else. That would not be fair to the students who did receiving a passing grade on the project.”

Kyndall knew that she needed to pass this class before she could move on with the other classes she needed. She couldn’t fail any class…especially this one.

“Is there any extra credit or something that I can do? I really need to pass this class.”

She was willing to do anything he needed her to do in order to get a passing grade for his class.

He put his hand on her thigh and grinned. “I’m sure that if we put our heads together we can come up with something.”

She pushed his hand away and jumped up. “I don’t need the class bad enough to lower myself to being one of those girls.”

“I don’t see where you have a choice, Miss Powell. You need this class. I am the only professor who teaches it.”

02-16-20_10-51-43 PM

She headed for the door to the office. She had every intention of reporting him for this. He must have realized that because he jumped up and got between her and the door.

“If you say anything to anybody then you will be out of this school faster than you can blink.”

She saw the angry look on his face and backed away a few steps. He was still between her and the door and there was no other way to escape. She was going to have to come up with another plan to get through that door and away from him.

She saw the snacks on the counter by the door. She looked at the glasses. “Do you mind if I have a drink while I think about all of this.”

“Sure. Help yourself.” He grinned as he watched her step over to the counter.

02-16-20_11-07-27 PM

Kyndall was trying to decide her next move when she felt his hands on her waist. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm herself so she could think.

“Kyndall, this is the best offer you are going to get. This is the only way you are going to pass my class. If you leave now, the offer goes with you and you will be in this exact same position next semester. Save yourself some time and accept what I am offering.”

02-16-20_11-07-44 PM

Kyndall turned and was startled to see him so close.

“This is not appropriate, Professor. And my answer is no. I will not accept your terms for extra credit. I will take my failing grade to the dean and see if he agrees with your terms.”

02-16-20_11-07-49 PM

She turned to get away from him, but he kept his hands on her. “I suggest you remove your hands from my body. You were not given permission to touch me.”

She managed to step away from him. “If you ever touch me again, or if I ever hear of you touching another woman on this campus without her permission, you will regret it.”

02-16-20_11-09-48 PM

He watched her leave the office. He wasn’t worried about her threats. She was just a little girl who has not learned the way life works yet. He would be happy to teach her.

He wasn’t worried about her telling anybody either. It was her word against his after all. Nobody would believe her.

7:23 On My Own

02-16-20_1-43-24 AM

Classes were harder than Kyndall expected them to be. She spent a lot of her time outside of class reading and studying in the common areas on campus.

Amira and Bryan had been arguing a lot at home lately so it was easier to study at the campus community center. It wasn’t as quiet as it should be at home, but her best friends weren’t screaming at each other.

02-16-20_1-39-10 AM

One big benefit to studying on campus is having access to books and study materials that she did not have at the house. She wanted to read and study as much as she could. Especially since she had one professor who was really tough and expected them to go above and beyond on their work.

Kyndall didn’t mind the extra work, but she didn’t like that professor. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was, but there was something off about him. She would be glad when the semester was over and she was finished with his class.

02-16-20_1-44-11 AM

Another added benefit to studying on campus was the extra time she got to spend with Cason. It was easier for him to stay on campus between classes and practice than it was for him to run home and back. They would study together while on campus.

Kyndall liked that time with him…even it was spent with their noses in books. She knew she would get the time with him in the evening without the books. That was the time she enjoyed the most.

02-16-20_1-50-21 AM

The problem was, when evening came and Cason was home from practice, Kyndall was usually pretty exhausted. She would try napping before everybody got home, but it didn’t seem to help.

7:22 It Was You

02-15-20_8-41-52 PM

Summer was almost over. College would start in a few days.

Kyndall, Amira, Cason and Bryan had a house together in town. Amira and Bryan were both going to Foxbury. Cason and Kyndall were attending Britechester.

It was nice that they were all living together. It made it feel a lot less lonely than it would have if they had been staying in dorms.

02-15-20_8-45-53 PM

Kyndall was glad to have her friends and her boyfriend with her. The four of them had known each other since the first day of kindergarten. Being away from them as well as her family would have made college a lot harder for her.

She knew that college was going to be hard. She had hopes of becoming a doctor so she could help children who were going through what she did when she was a kid. She wanted to be able to make their lives easier if she could.

Having her friends here would give her people to study with and help keep her on track. They could keep each other on track. With Cason having his football practice, he was going to need the extra quiet of the house to help with his studies. He couldn’t get that at a noisy dorm.

02-15-20_8-52-28 PM

Plus they both liked the cuddles they could get in the house. They definitely wouldn’t get that in a dorm.

7:21 Graduation (Friends Forever)

02-12-20_6-27-29 PM

Graduation.

The day they had been waiting years for. The day they never wanted to arrive.

They knew that everything was going to change. They would be going their own ways now. Some of them, like Rohan and Brandi, were joining the military. Some of them were staying in Willow Creek and finding jobs. Some of them were going away to college.

02-12-20_6-27-47 PM

She was glad that she would not be going to college alone. Amira, Bryan and Cason were all going with her. They already had their acceptance letters.

The plan was for them to head there in a few days and find an apartment that they could all share. Cason had to go early for football practices anyway. He had gotten in on a scholarship and couldn’t miss the practices or he would lose it.

02-12-20_6-28-06 PM

Kyndall looked at the family and friends sitting infront of the stage. She was going to miss all of them. She knew that she would see them when she came home for holidays but it wasn’t going to be the same as seeing them every day like she does now.

She frowned when she saw someone walking up to the stage.

02-12-20_6-20-05 PM

“Grandpa, you shouldn’t be up here.”

Andy looked at his great granddaughter and didn’t say a word. He was too overcome with emotion to be able to say anything.

02-12-20_6-24-25 PM

He reached out and gave her a big hug.

Cason saw his mother walking across the stage and sighed. What is with these old people? Don’t they remember their own graduations and how to behave?
