Campbell smiled when he saw that his grandfather had installed a ramp at the office. He realized that the old man was prepared for him to come back to work.
Brooklyn smiled when she saw him enter the door. “Hey, stranger.”
He smiled at her comment. “It has been awhile, hasn’t it?”
“Too long. I’m happy to see you.”
“I’m happy to be back. Is my grandfather available?”
She nodded. “He’s in his office.”
Campbell went into his grandfather’s office and grinned.
“What are you doing in my seat?”
Andy looked up at his grandson and smiled.
“This is still my seat for a little while longer.”
Andy leaned back in his seat and looked at his grandson.
“It is wonderful to see you back here.”
“I’m hoping to make it an everyday thing. I’m ready to come back to work.”
Andy had been waiting for him to want to come back.
“Your office is still across the hall. It’s been waiting for you.”
Campbell looked at his grandfather trying to decide how to broach the next subject.
“Who has been handling the sites?”
“Kyle. He’s been doing a pretty decent job with it.”
Campbell nodded thinking about it.
“Do you think he would be willing to continue? It is not safe for me to be at the sites as long as I am in this chair. I can do the basic things at sites, but not the things a site manager would need to do.”
“He’s upstairs right now. I can have him stop by your office before he heads to the sites.”
Campbell went across the hall to his office. It still looked the same as it did the last time he had been in there.
“Dad said that you wanted to talk to me.”
Campbell looked at his uncle and nodded. “I wanted to ask you if you would like to continue as site supervisor. I’m unable to do the job efficiently from this chair.”
Kyle looked at his nephew and smiled as he nodded. “I am here for as long as you need me.”
