Philip hung up the phone and went to find his wife.
“Honey, sit down.”
Shelby looked at her husband and saw a look on his face that scared her. She shook his head.
“If you tell me that something happened to our son…”
“He’s okay. He’s in the hospital, but he’s alive. He got hurt at work.”
Shelby took a deep breath then opened her eyes.
“How bad?”
“I don’t know. They only said that he was hurt and was asking for us. He wants your dad too.”
Shelby sat beside the hospital bed and listened to the doctor. Campbell was awake, which made her happy. From what she heard, it could have been a lot worse.
Andy looked at his grandson then at the doctor. “You are absolutely certain about this?”
The doctor nodded. “I have reviewed the tests and xrays. Three other doctors have also. We have all come to the same results.”
Campbell heard the noise from his mother and looked over at her. He saw her crying and covered her hand with his.
“It’s alright, Mom.”
Shelby shook her head. “This is far from alright. Haven’t you heard what they have said, Campbell? You are leaving here in a wheelchair.”
“I know. I’ve had a few days to think about it, Mom. I’m not happy about it, but it’s alright.”
“It’s not alright. You had so many plans for you life and now…”
“Plans change, Mom. I planned to work with Devin and that changed. I planned to marry Rita and raise our son together and that changed. Just because this happened and once again plans have changed, it does not mean that things are over. I’ve already dealt with a lot of shit in my life. I’ll deal with this too.”
Oh poor guy… that’s so sad.
