Philip stood outside Campbell’s house as he talked to his wife on the phone. She had sent him to check on their son when they didn’t get the promised call from him.
“He’s not here, Shelby. Clare said he stopped to say goodbye to her and the twins then left…No. He didn’t tell her where he was going…Yes. He took his suitcase with him…I don’t know, love.”
He listened to his wife for a few more minutes then put the phone back in his pocket.
“Where did you go, Campbell?”
Shelby glared at her father. “He needs to come home, Dad, and I know that you have the ability to find him. Why won’t you?”
Andy understood why his daughter was upset but remained calm.
“Shelby, he is an adult. He can do anything that he wishes and we have no power to stop him.”
“He just got out of the hospital after trying to kill himself. He has clearly shown that he is incapable of making decisions for himself.”
“Princess, I already know all of this. We have to trust him though. I don’t think he is going to make another attempt.”
“He better not or I’ll never talk to you again.”
Andy sighed and pointed to the chair. “Sit down, Shelby.”
He waited until she was sitting before he continued. “I have people keeping an eye on Campbell. He does not realize it though. If anything happens, we will know.”
Shelby looked at her father. “Do you know where he is?”
Andy nodded. “I do. He is fine. He is actually not far from home.”
“Where is he, Dad?”
Andy shook his head. “I won’t tell you because I know you. You will go and try to get him to come home.”
“He’s my son. I want him at home where I know he is alright.”
Andy shook his head again.
