Andy wanted to talk to his grandfather about something he had overheard from the crew at work. He didn’t want to have the conversation at work though.

He hugged his mother and smiled. He looked at his little sister and shook his head. “Mom, you need to keep Fiona from growing up. The boys are going to be having inappropriate dreams about my little sister.”

Shelby sighed and shook her head. “Your father has already had to have talks with two boys that your sister has brought home.”

“Dad’s a cupcake. Let me talk to them. They will behave with her or have nothing to misbehave with.”

Shelby smiled and shook her head. “I don’t think so, Campbell. It is nice that you are looking out for your little sister, but we’ve got it handled.”

“Is grandpa home? I need to talk to him about something.”

“He’s in his office.”

He kissed his mom’s cheek then went to talk to his grandfather.

Andy looked up when his grandson came in. “What a nice surprise. I didn’t expect you here. I figured you would have a date with Rita tonight.”

Campbell sat down and shook his head. “She’s out of town for work. Gets back tomorrow. I came over to talk to you.”

“Is something wrong?”

“I’m not sure. Maybe.” He explained to his grandfather about the things he had heard the crew talking about. He told him about the things that he had found with Devin in the apartment. “What is going on, Grandpa?”

Andy sat listening to his grandson and waited until he was finished. He leaned forward and put his hands on the desk. “What they said is true.”

“You are a mob boss?”

“Yes and no.” Andy wasn’t sure how to explain it. “Mob bosses usually are in it for money, fame, and that kind of stuff. I just protect our family. I don’t care about anything else. I just make sure our family is safe.”

Campbell thought about the pictures and papers in the apartment. “You found Dad and brought him home, didn’t you?”

“It was people who work for me who brought your father home, yes.”

“The drug dealer who gave Devin the stuff that killed him?” Campbell remembered hearing on the news that the guy had been found dead.

“I protect the family, Campbell. That is all you need to know right now.”

“Right now? Does that mean that you will tell me more later?”

“I do not know. Not everything I do is legal, and I would like to keep you out of trouble.”

“You can’t do it forever, Grandpa. Someone is going to have to protect the family once you are too old and look like a California Raisin.”
