Andy heard the knocks on the door and slipped out of bed trying not to wake the woman beside him. He pulled on the pants lying by the bed then headed down the stairs.
He wasn’t really surprised to see the cops standing on his porch. He opened the door and looked at them.
“What can I do for you guys?”
“Can we come in and talk?”
Andy stepped back letting them inside. He saw the woman coming down the stairs and smiled. “If you would like to start the coffee, I’ll take care of breakfast when I’m finished here.
He watched her tighten the belt on his robe that she was wearing and head for the kitchen. He wished he had thought to ask her her name the night before.
He led the cops to the living room and sat down.
“We need to know where you were last night.”
“Well, that would depend on what time you are asking about. From about 9 until midnight, I was at the club having a few drinks. After that until you knocked on the door waking me up, I wassnuggled up with that beautiful young woman over there.”
One of the cops looked at the woman. “Is that true?”
The woman nodded her head but didn’t say anything. The cops left shortly afterwards.
While Andy was finishing up with the cops, the woman had stood silently and listened. She waited until the cops had left before saying anything.
“I don’t know what you are messed up in, but I want no part of it. I won’t lie for you again.”
