3:61 Another Day In Paradise

12-29-18_9-52-32 AM

Owen and Kyle watched Aiden eat. It was obvious that he hadn’t eaten in awhile. From the look of his clothes, he hadn’t had a bath in awhile either.

“Where do you live, Aiden? We can take you home after you eat.”

“Oh, it’s far away. Like Europe far.”

Kyle looked at Owen and raised an eyebrow. “Europe, huh? How did you get here?”

“On a giant airplane. The pilot let me set in the cockpit with him. I flew the plane while the pilot took a nap.”

It was difficult for Owen and Kyle not to laugh.

“You flew the plane? I bet that was exciting.”

Aiden shook his head. “Not really. Once you’ve flown a rocket ship to Pluto, flying an airplane is boring.”

“You flew to Pluto? You will have to tell us about that trip.”

“I would, but I can’t. It was top secret. The government doesn’t want me talking about it. I could get in a lot of trouble just telling you what I already did. They have spies everywhere you know.”

“We did not know that. Thank you for telling us. We will have to be careful with what we say.”

“That would be very smart. Nobody knows who the spies are. One of you two could be a spy.

“We are not spies.”

“If you were, you wouldn’t tell people.”

12-29-18_10-05-45 AM

“Good point.” Owen could see that Kyle was close to losing the fight not to laugh. “So where do you stay when you aren’t in Europe or flying to Pluto?”

“With my grandma. She lives just around the corner.”

Owen frowned as he thought about Aiden’s grandmother not being able to properly care for him. The boy was filthy and hanging out at cafes in order to steal leftovers from peoples’ plates.

Owen ordered a few things to go then smiled at the boy. “We will walk you back to your grandmother’s house. She is probably worried about you.”

Once Aiden had finished eating and the to go order was ready, Owen paid then walked with Aiden and Kyle. What they found was not what they had expected.

12-29-18_10-36-27 AM

Aiden had led them to a homeless camp. He went inside one of the tents. They were able to hear him. It sounded like he was trying to wake someone.

Aiden came out of the tent and looked at Owen and Kyle. “I can’t wake her up.”

12-29-18_10-38-50 AM

Owen went inside the tent. He stepped back out a few minutes later. He looked at Kyle and shook his head.

“Can you take him to the hotel? I will wait here.’

Kyle nodded and left with Aiden. Owen waited until they were gone to call the police.

12-29-18_11-37-59 AM

When Owen got back to the hotel, he found Aiden asleep on the sofa. He went into the suite’s bedroom and found Kyle on the phone. He waited until he hung up then sat on the bed beside him. “Is he okay?”

12-29-18_11-39-54 AM

“He’s fine. He took a bath then fell asleep. I got him some pajamas from the gift shop downstairs.

Owen pointed to the bags he brought in with him. “I stopped and got him some things. We can throw out his old clothes.”

“What did the police say?”

“She had been dead for a few days. They didn’t seem to interested in Aiden. Apparently he had been in several foster homes and ran away from all of them. He always ended up back on the street with his grandmother.”

“Where are his parents?”

“His mother was a prostitute. She died of a drug overdose a few years ago. The police don’t know who his father is. They said it is probably one of the men she picked up on the street.”

12-29-18_11-40-13 AM

Kyle felt bad for the kid. “What is going to happen to him?”

“Andy did ask if we were going to bring home a brother or sister for him.”

“We can’t just take him home. That’s not legal.”

“I know. I already talked to the lawyer. He is going to file emergency custody paperwork with the court. That will give us temporary custody until we can file the paperwork for permanent custody. He is just waiting for me to call him back. I told him that I needed to talk to you first.”

“Call him and tell him to do it. I can’t let that boy go back out onto the street.”

3:60 Gira Con Me Questa Notte

12-21-18_11-11-07 PM

Kyle looked around the room and smiled. “The honeymoon suite?”

“Well, we are on our honeymoon. We can afford the room.”

Kyle wrapped his arms around Owen. “Andy asked me if we are going to bring home any brothers or sisters for him.”

Owen hadn’t thought about Kyle possibly wanting children. “What did you tell him?”

“I told him that I am happy with our family the way it is right now, but could consider adopting later.”

“You don’t want a child that is biologically yours?”

12-21-18_11-11-42 PM

Kyle shook his head. “There’s only two ways for that to happen and neither appeal to me. I would give a home to a child already in the world and needing a home.”

Owen kissed his husband softly. “You truly are amazing.”

“You told me that last night and again this morning.”

Owen kissed him softly and he slid his hands under Kyle’s shirt. He tugged the shirt pulling it over his head. “I think you could use some time in the Jacuzzi.”

12-28-18_7-54-58 PM

They had decided to leave the room for dinner. They walked to a restaurant down the street.

They were setting at one of the outside tables enjoying the weather.

“Watch that kid there. As soon as someone leaves the table, he swoops in for whatever they left.”

After watching him for awhile, they ordered a plate of spaghetti for the kid. They invited him to join them.

“What’s your name?”

“Aiden.”

Elf On The Shelf

I wanted to share one of my Christmas gifts with all of you.

I shared before about my Pepper Oni being sick. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge on December 11. The plan had been to get another cat, but I was waiting to find the cat that I could not walk away from.

My local shelter features a Pet of the Week on the local news. For the past several weeks it has been dogs. Saturday they featured a cat named Elf On The Shelf.

The name caught my attention. That is my nickname for my younger sister simply because at 41 years old, she is only 4’9″.

The next thing that caught my attention was her nose. That white spot…❤️.

I knew they had an adoption event that day. By the time I saw the article it was over. The shelter was closed on Sundays.

Today I went to the shelter and asked about her. She was still there! I took her into the cat play room. She snuggled herself into my neck purring up a storm. Then she did something that my Pepper Oni used to do. She buried her face in my arm and went to sleep. I stood there holding her and cried.

I asked the worker if they could hold her until Friday when I got paid. They couldn’t. I didn’t have the $75 adoption fee. My bank account is less than $1 until pay day.

I put her back in her cage and told her that I would be back for her on Friday and she better make sure nobody else adopted her before then.

I close the cage and see that she had been sponsored. Her adoption fee was reduced to $50. Still more than I had. I go to leave. I stopped at the desk to talk to the worker and pet Onyx (a big black cat about 8 years old). While I am petting Onyx a phone call comes into the shelter.

Elf On The Shelf is in a warm home this Christmas and for every Christmas in the future thanks to an amazing friend who paid her adoption fee.

I have decided to keep the name the shelter has given her, but I am calling her Elfie.

3:59 Dance With My Father

Owen sat the last box down then sat down with his mother and Andy. His mother was moving back into the house. She was going to help with the kids while Owen and Kyle were working.

12-21-18_6-36-00 PM

“Honey, this could have waited until you and Kyle got back.”

“I needed to know that you were here and settled, Mom.”

“You shouldn’t be here fussing over me right now. You should be with Kyle. It is your wedding day.”

Owen shook his head. “A few canned words at the courthouse isn’t a wedding.”

“Owen Antonio Maynard, knock it off. It may not have been the big wedding you had planned, but you are married. You are acting like a little brat right now.”

12-21-18_6-39-33 PM

“Thanks, Mom. Always so supportive.” He sighed and hugged his mother. “I’m sorry, Mom. Things just aren’t going the way I had planned.”

“None of us planned for this to happen, honey.” She sat down and sighed.

“I think Dad knew.” He explained to her the way he had been acting while helping him get ready for the wedding.

“He did know. We both did. We just didn’t know when.”

“Why didn’t you tell any of us?”

“He made me promise not to. He wanted to be able to enjoy the time he had without everybody worrying. He was really happy to see you with Kyle. He really liked him.”

“Are you okay, Mom?”

She nodded. “I miss your father, but I am fine. I have you, your sister, and five wonderful grandkids to keep me going.”

3:58 Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

12-21-18_1-09-09 AM

Zaiden straightened Owen’s tie. “Do we need to have the sex talk or have we already done that?”

“I think we’re good, but if it makes you happy, go ahead.”

“I think you’ll figure it out. You’re a smart young man.”

Owen looked at his dad. He was worried about him. “Are you okay, Dad.”

“Today is not the day to worry about me. It is your wedding day.” Zaiden smiled at his son. “I don’t know if I have ever said it it before, but I am very proud of you.”

That meant a lot to him. He hugged his dad. “I love you, Dad.”

“I love you, too.”

12-21-18_1-19-03 AM

Owen held Kyle’s hands in his. They were listening to the officiant, but never took their eyes off each other. He smiled at Kyle and whispered, “I love you.”

12-21-18_1-19-53 AM

“Before we go any further, I need to ask, is there anybody here who can give any reason why these two should not be married?”

Everybody looked at Patrick who just shook his head. It was actually Raelyn who cried out.

Owen turned to look at his mother and was horrified by what he saw.

3:57 All The Man That I Need

12-16-18_5-58-57 PM

Kyle and Owen had decided they didn’t want a long engagement. They had already been together for three years and were ready to make it legal.

The problem they were having was a location.

12-16-18_5-59-43 PM

“How about the church your parents were married in? Their wedding pictures are beautiful.”

“I would have loved that, but it was blown up. How about one of the parks?”

“Too public. I want something small and intimate.”

12-16-18_6-04-23 PM

Owen moved closer to Kyle. “If you want intimate, I can give you intimate.”

As tempting as that was, Kyle knew they needed to get this decided on. “How about a destination wedding? Maybe South America? Your family seems drawn to that place.”

Owen shook his head. “I want my parents to be there. The trip Mom and Dad took really took a toll on Dad.”

“I noticed he didn’t look very well at the party.”

“How about having the wedding here? We have plenty of room. It would be private. Dad did an amazing job on the garden when he bought the house.”

Kyle nodded and smiled. “Now that we know where, we need to decide when.”

“The book tour is in two weeks. So how about this weekend? We can use the tour as our honeymoon.”

“As part of it. I would like part of our honeymoon to not be spent working.”

“Okay. We can leave after the wedding and spend that week together. I know Patrick would love to keep Any the extra week.”

“I think we have it all figured out now.”

12-16-18_6-06-05 PM

Owen started to unbutton Kyle’s shirt.

Kyle put his hands over Owen’s. “I don’t know what kind of man you think I am but I’m going to need a ring on my finger first. I have my reputation to think of.”

Owen pulled back and looked at him. “You are joking, right?”

Kyle grinned and pulled him back for a kiss. “Race you to the play room.”

Sorry

I know my posts have been erratic lately. I do have several chapters written but have not had the time to get the screen shots. Work has been keeping me pretty busy. Winter break is coming up in a couple weeks and will free up some time.

There are a couple other things that have been pulling me away from the story lately too. I have been making blankets. Baby blankets, blankets for Christmas gifts, and next up is a blanket that is going in a raffle basket for tornado relief for the town of Taylorville, Illinois. A great friend of mine lives there and her town was hit by a devastating EF3 a week ago.

One of the baby blankets is for my oldest nephew’s first baby…a girl!

But what is taking up most of my time is my cat, Pepper Oni. I will copy the post I put on facebook today instead of typing it all out again. Hard enough the first time.

I have known for awhile now and the vet confirmed it Friday. Pepper Oni will very likely be making her trip across the Rainbow Bridge soon. She had originally been given around 5 years to live due to the health issues she has had her entire life. She turns 13 this Christmas. She has even surprised her vet with that one.

This past year I have noticed the changes in her signaling that her time was coming. She has lost weight. She never weighed more than 10 pounds. She is barely 8 pounds at the moment. She has a harder time getting into the bed. I either lift her or she climbs onto a small chair I keep by the bed for her. She is not playing as much as prefers sleeping. While she has always been a cuddle bug, lately is is almost constant. She has to be touching me. If she is not in her window bed watching a squirrel. She is in my lap.

She is not eating. She stopped eating her dry food about a week ago. In the past few days she has stopped eating her chicken. I tried cooking it in a different way and I can get her to take a few bites before she loses interest but it is not much. I have baby food for her that was was eating fine until yesterday. She walks away from that now too. Her favorite treat, a small pinch of shredded cheese, given to her last night remains untouched.

Talking to the vet Friday, I was told to give her Nutri-Cal as a supplement. She hates it and bit me twice yesterday when I tried giving it to her, but I manage to get it in her.

The vet and I talked about a dental for her in case that is the problem. While that could very likely be the problem at the moment and MAY help her, the risks to her far outweigh the benefits. She would have to put under anesthesia. Because of her age and health problems, the chances of her waking up from the anesthesia are very small. We have made the decision to keep her comfortable, supplement with the Nutri-Cal, and wait for her to take her final walk across the Rainbow Bridge.

I am trying to get chapters posted when I am able. Please bear with me for the time being. Hopefully the new year will bring calmer times.

3:56 Will You Marry Me?

12-08-18_9-21-29 AM

Owen was nervous. Him and Kyle had been together for three years now. He was certain that this was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

He had planned a smile birthday party for Kyle. It was just family and a few close friends.

He had already talked to Patrick and the kids about what he planned. He didn’t want them to be upset with the surprise. They were all happy and excited.

He watched Kyle talk to Patrick and could feel the butterflies in his stomach.

“Daddy, is it present time yet?”

Owen looked at Teresa. “I think now is the perfect time for presents.”

Owen walked over to Kyle and whispered in his ear. He then looked at the guests. “It is time for our birthday boy to open his gifts.”

12-08-18_9-33-38 AM

Everybody moved tot he table where the gifts had been placed. Kyle thanked everybody as he opened them. He was a bit sad when the table was empty and there had been no gift from Owen.

“You have one more gift.”

Kyle looked at the box that Owen was holding. He opened the box and found a book.

“You have to read it to everybody.”

Kyle nodded and opened the book.

Once upon a time there was a single father who had already had his heart broken. He had given up on love and planned to raise his kids alone.

One day while he was working, a man knocked on his door. Because the father was expecting someone who was going to help him with his work, the father was not surprised by the knock.

The two men worked well together. They became friends and soon fell in love.

The father realized that his new friend had fixed his broken heart.

After three years, the father decided that he didn’t want to be a single father any longer. He bought a special present for his friend’s birthday and planned a party with all their friends and family.

After all the gifts on the table were opened, there was one gift left, a book. While the book was being read, the father was on his knees with the true gift. All the friend had to do was put the book down and turn around.

12-08-18_9-42-06 AM

Kyle closed the book and turned to look at Owen.

“Kyle, will you give this single father and his four children their happen ending and marry me?”

Kyle could barely get the word out so he nodded. He kissed Owen then looked at him. “Who drew those pictures? They are terrible!”

3:55 Feel This Moment

12-02-18_2-30-13 PM

Zaiden had read the books that Owen had given him. It had helped him understand himself and his family more.

“Raelyn?”

She looked up from the book she was reading. “Yes, love? Do you need something?”

He shook his head and smiled. “I’m fine. I was thinking though. Let’s take a trip. Just me and you.”

She sat the book down and looked at him. “Where would you like to go?”

“Back to South America. It seems to have played an important pat in our lives and in the lives of my parents. I would like to go and see it.”

Raelyn was a bit worried about him walking the rough trails, but she could see that this was something he wanted to do. “When would you like to go?”

“As soon as we can.” He knew that if they waited, they would never go.

“I will call the travel agent.”

12-02-18_3-39-53 PM

Zaiden looked around and grinned. This was the place. It was perfect. “Can we stop here and rest?”

“Of course.” She handed him the bottle of water. “Are you ready to go back to the lodge?”

“After we have taken a break.” He reached for her hand. “There’s something else that I want while we are here. I want you to marry me again. Right now. Right here.”

“Honey, there’s nobody here to witness it for us.”

“That don’t matter. We are already married, so it would only be a renewal ceremony anyway. We don’t need anybody to witness that. We only need each other.” He looked at her afraid she wouldn’t want to do this. “I want to have some memory of you becoming my wife, even if it is just a renewal ceremony.”

Raelyn cupped his cheek in her hand. “This is important to you, isn’t it?”

Zaiden nodded his head. “It is.”

She nodded her head and smiled. “Let’s do it.”
