Zaiden talked to his Aunt Diana at the party. He could see that she had something on her mind.
“Go ahead and say it, Aunt Diana.”
“Why didn’t you come to us, Zaiden? You know that Paisley and I would have taken you back into our home. It would have been better than this.”
Even though they had this conversation on the phone, Zaiden answered her. “Would you and Aunt Paisley have also taken the girls?”
“Well, you know our house is small. Your Uncle Collin would have taken them.”
“That is why I didn’t turn to you for help. Those girls lost their mom and two sisters in one day. Then they lost their father when Dad died. I wasn’t going to separate myself from them also.”
Diana nodded in understanding. “You are a good brother, Zaiden. Your father would be so proud of you.”
Zaiden looked across the room to where Rowana was talking to some guy. He remembered the guy from his birthday party. “No he wouldn’t. He would be just as ashamed of me as I am of myself.” Zaiden shook his head. “But he’s not here. We can’t change the things that have happened, no matter how much we want to.”
Diana watched her nephew walk away. She was going to have to talk to Collin about what they could do to help Zaiden and the girls.
Zaiden did his best to avoid Rowana after the actual reveal. He talked with Tony instead.
“Congratulations. A boy. You must be happy about that.”
Zaiden shook his head. “This whole situation isn’t right.” He told Tony about the adoption and the fact that she had forced the pregnancy on him.
Tony frowned as he listened. “What can I do to help, Zaiden?”
“Help me find a way out of this mess.”
