Casting Call!!

There are some big things planned for the second generation. There are a few specific sims that I am asking for this time since I already have a full world.

1. Doctor: Can be male or female. YA or older.
2. Nurse: Once again can be male or female. YA or older.
3. Bad guy: I need someone who is really bad but looks like the boy next door. He needs to be either Adult or Elder.
4. Mrs. Robinson Type woman: This is a female of either Young Adult or Adult age. She MUST be a single woman with no children. Pets are okay but no more than 2 for her.

The doctor, nurse, and bad guy can come with families if you wish.

I have ALL packs so feel free to use what you wish. I also accept CC if you leave links. Please no skin or eyes though since I do use default replacements for those already. If you don’t want to leave links, I will do my best to find something I already have that is similar in style to what you have.

I am setting a deadline of March 10 for this. Traits and such do not matter for this so use whatever. Just please use the hashtag #WeOwnTonight so I can find them easily in the gallery.

1:26 Changes

Izaiah knew he had to figure out something. He had a family to take care of. He couldn’t set on his ass and not work. That wasn’t who he was.

He was waiting on the insurance to send Colleen’s money. He was also talking to a lawyer about suing the city for Colleen’s death. That could take awhile though. He didn’t have the time to wait.

He had his trust fund from his grandparents, but that would not last forever. He had hoped to save it for the kids when they were ready to go to college and for their weddings.

02-25-18_5-16-59 PM

Instead of heading home, he decided to pay his old boss a visit. Since he had a clean record with the force, maybe they would take him back. He sure hoped they would.

02-25-18_4-28-31 PM

He looked through the glass on the front of the building and saw Toni setting at the front desk. He groaned when he saw her. They never had gotten along. They had been partners when they both first started. She seemed to feel that partners at work should carry over to their private lives as well. She didn’t take it well when he told her he was married and was not going to sleep with her.

02-25-18_4-30-45 PM

“Hello, Toni. Is Nathan in?”

When she just sat there with her eyes closed like she was meditating or something, he frowned a bit. “May I speak with him?”

“You may.”

Once again she just sat there with her eyes closed.

“Are you going to call back to his office to see if I can go back?”

This time she opened her eyes and glared at him.

“Fine. I guess I have to do all of the work around this damn place.” She picked up the phone while still muttering. “Answer phones, catch bad guys, deal with idiots who just walk in.” She talked on the phone for a moment before hanging it up. “He said you can go on back.”

“Thank you, Toni. By the way, it was almost nice to see you again.” Her glare back at him was enough to make him smile.

02-25-18_4-36-54 PM

Izaiah tapped on Nathan’s door then went in and sat down.

“Nice to see you again, Maynard. What can I do for you?”

“Well, I would like my old job back.”

He watched Nathan for any sort of reaction. Either the man had gotten harder to read in his old age, or he had gone deaf. He was about to ask again when Nathan finally replied.

“I’m sorry, Izaiah. I can’t take you back.”

“What? Why? I had a spotless record with the force.” He couldn’t believe he was being turned away.

“You did, yes. Your wife and father on the other hand. Their records tarnish yours. Because of them, I cannot take you back. It would not set well with the citizens.”

02-25-18_5-17-36 PM

He got up and left without saying a word. Even though Colleen had been cleared, what happened was still being held against him. His own father caused a lot of that and for that, he would never forgive him.

1:25 Breaking News

02-24-18_3-34-12 PM

02-21-18_9-57-50 PM

Izaiah stood on the balcony of Maynard Industries looking out of the city. The board members were on their way in for the emergency meeting that Collin had called. Izaiah already knew what the meeting was going to be about.

He refused to go inside until everybody was there. He knew what was going in inside and he didn’t feel like dealing with it. It was bad enough that he even had to be there.

02-24-18_3-27-51 PM

Nelson stood in front of Emma’s desk. “How are you feeling?”

“For the hundredth time today, I feel fine.”

“I’m sorry, my dear. This is my first time becoming a father. I’m a bit nervous.”

02-24-18_3-30-52 PM

“Oh, good grief, Nelson. Woman have been having babies since the beginning of time. Emma is fine. So is the kid.”

Collin glared at his son. “You are needed in the board room. The others will be here soon.”

02-24-18_3-31-24 PM

Nelson was not pleased with any of this. “I do not understand why I must be here. You have never let me attend any of the board meetings before.”

“You created this mess in the company, so you will be there when it is taken care of.”

He followed his father and the rest of the board members into the board room without another complaint.

02-24-18_12-58-08 PM

Diana had come out to the balcony to let Izaiah know that everybody was there and waiting for him.

“How is Zaiden?”

“He misses you and the others terribly.”

“We miss him too. We were thinking of a visit this weekend if that is alright with you.”

He nodded and followed her inside.

02-24-18_12-59-35 PM

Once everyone was settled at the table, Collin spoke up. “I know you are all wondering why Izaiah and I called this emergency meeting.”

There were a few murmurs before he went on. “With the current state of financial difficulties the company finds itself it, Izaiah and I have decided that it is best if we disband the company.”

02-24-18_1-07-06 PM

Nelson was shocked, but sad. He knew that this was his fault. The company had started facing hard times when his grandfather was arrested. He had made it even worse by taking money from the company to set aside for his child. He didn’t think he had been doing anything wrong. The company would have become his one day anyway.

02-24-18_1-13-38 PM

The more his father talked, the worse he felt. He hadn’t realized that the company would have to close because of what he was doing. Thousands of people were losing their jobs. The companies they had bought were to be closed also.

02-24-18_1-16-42 PM

Izaiah was not sure if this was a good or a bad thing. The company had gotten nothing but bad press in recent years thanks to his father. It was probably best to just start over. That was something Izaiah was used to.

1:24 Boom Boom Pow

02-20-18_4-21-39 PM

Isaiah looked at the two animals near the elevator. The damn cat brought home a friend.

“You are not keeping the dog.”

He slapped himself in the forehead. “I’m talking to Catastrophe like he understands me.”

The phone ringing stopped him from continuing the conversation with the animals and with himself.

“Zaiden’s school?”

02-20-18_4-35-36 PM

By the time he hung up the phone, he was angry. “Zaiden!”

He went looking for his son so he could get this dealt with. His first punishment. This wasn’t something he was looking forward to.

02-20-18_4-23-07 PM

Zaiden heard his dad yell for him and looked at Zander. “You haven’t seen me, okay.”

He started to go hide, but…

02-20-18_4-24-04 PM

“Freeze, young man. Your father is looking for you.”

“He is? I’ll go find him.”

02-20-18_4-24-29 PM

“You stay right here, and he will find you. I heard what you said to Zander. Don’t get him mixed up in your messes.”

02-20-18_4-26-43 PM

“Zaiden! I just got a call from your principal. Suspended for fighting?”

“It wasn’t my fault, Dad.”

“Who hit who first?”

“I hit first.”

“Then it is your fault.”

“But I had to, Dad. They were saying mean things.”

02-20-18_4-30-36 PM

“Who was it and what did they say?”

“It’s a boy in my class named Issac. He told me that I will probably move again soon because you aren’t my real dad.  He said my mom was a whore and nobody knows who my real dad is. I punched him to shut him up.”

02-20-18_4-30-55 PM

Izaiah didn’t know what to say. He hadn’t expected to hear that.

“First, we don’t use that language here. If Issac is using it, then that is his parents’ problem. We don’t use it.”

Zaiden nodded in understanding.

“Second, I am your father. We had the test done, remember?”

02-20-18_4-31-31 PM

“Was my mom what he said she was?”

Izaiah shook his head. He remembered some of the last things he said to Colleen and felt terrible for them. “Your mother was trapped in something she couldn’t get out of. Bad people were forcing her to do things she didn’t want to do.”

Zaiden didn’t quite understand. “So Issac was right?”

“No. This is something you will understand better when you are older. Right now, you just need to know that your mother loved you very much and would be very happy to see the young man you are growing into.”

02-20-18_4-32-55 PM

Zaiden gave his dad a big hug. “I wish Mom was still here.”

“So do I, son. So do I.”

02-20-18_4-33-33 PM

Izaiah pulled out of the hug and looked at Zaiden. “I am only going to ground you for the rest of the week. Next time Issac or someone says something that you don’t like, you come home and talk to me or Callie about it. Okay?”

He was happy when Zaiden nodded. He sent him to his room to work on his homework.

1:23 Brahms Lullaby

Zaiden was getting used to being moved around. This was his fourth home since he was born. Fifth if you counted the few days he had originally spent with Izaiah before being adopted by Tabitha and Dennis.

He missed his brothers though. He couldn’t not remember a time when the twins weren’t with him. Until now. Now they were living with his aunt and they were his cousins instead of his brothers.

He had been told that they would visit him every weekend. He had already been here for what felt like forever and they hadn’t visited yet. He would have to ask his dad if they could go visit them instead.

02-18-18_12-16-24 PM

If it wasn’t for Zander, Zaiden would be a very lonely little boy. Thankfully his little brother was happy playing with him. They played a lot with the superhero hideout. Zander would sometimes play the bad guy who would try to eat the superhero. That always made Zaiden laugh.

02-18-18_12-18-13 PM

“Zander, quick, Dr. Proton is going to get away. We need your super teeth to stop him.”

Zander picked up the Dr. Proton figure and bit it’s leg.

“That’s it, Zander! Super Zander saves the day again!”

02-18-18_12-18-58 PM

Zander held the doll out to Zaiden. “Bite!”

Zaiden shook his head. “You have the super teeth. Not me. Biting the bad guys is your duty.

“Zaiden, please do not make your brother think that biting is a good thing.”

02-18-18_12-21-51 PM

Zander glared at his mom for ruining their play.

“Sorry, Mama Callie.”

Callie smiled at the boys. It was great seeing them playing and getting along so well together.

“Zaiden, you have a visitor.”

02-18-18_12-24-08 PM

Zaiden put the toys away and went to see who was there to see him. He saw Kimber walking down the hall and he smiled. He remembered her from the youth center. She was the one who would give him hugs.

02-18-18_12-24-23 PM

“Andy! I am happy to finally find you. I have been worried about you.”

Kimber gave the boy one of the hugs he had always liked.

02-18-18_12-25-02 PM

“I am fine. I am with my real dad again. And I have a little brother who looks like me.”

Kimber remembered how protective he had been of the the twins and wondered where they were. She was not going to ask though. She didn’t want to upset him if something had happened to them.

02-18-18_12-27-37 PM

“Zaiden, play?”

Zaiden looked at Zander. “I will when my friend leaves.”

Kimber looked at the toddler and smiled. “I will leave so you can have your brother back. You sure are a cutie. Maybe I’ll visit again and bring my little boy over to play.”

Callie told Kimber that would be wonderful and they arranged a play date for the boys as she walked Kimber out.

02-18-18_12-32-08 PM

Zaiden went back to Zander’s room so they could play. He found their dad checking out the dolls.

“This one has teeth marks on it.”

“That is Dr. Proton. He is the bad guy. Zander uses his super teeth to catch him.”

“Super teeth?” Izaiah shook his head and smiled. “You boys and your imaginations.”

Zaiden watched his dad walk out of the room as Zander came running in.

02-18-18_12-37-16 PM

The boys played until it was Zander’s bedtime. Zaiden went to his room and found his dad in there playing one of the video games.

“Dad, are you going to be playing long? I would like to go to bed.”

Izaiah turned off the game and smiled at his son. “Have you said goodnight to Zander and Callie?”

“No, but I will do that now.”

He left the room and found Callie on the balcony with Zander.  “Good night, Callie.”

02-18-18_12-37-53 PM

Zaiden gave his little brother a hug. “Good night, Zander. Thank you for playing with me today.”

1:22 Home To Stay

After talking to her brother at the wedding, Diana knew she needed to talk to Paisley next. She found her in the yard playing with the kids when she got home.

02-17-18_1-00-38 PM

“How was the wedding?”

“It was beautiful. Callie is a sweetheart. She’ll make him happy.” Diana kissed her wife’s cheek. “I need to talk to you about something. In our room where we won’t be interrupted.”

02-17-18_1-03-01 PM

Paisley was a bit worried. She knew the kids would be fine in the yard so she followed Diana inside. She sat beside her wife.

“What’s wrong?”

02-17-18_1-05-37 PM

“We can’t keep, Andy.”

Paisley looked at Diana confused. “What do you mean? We adopted him. He is our son.”

Diana knew that this wasn’t going to be easy. “We did and legally he is our son. He is also my brother’s son. Or, well, I think he is.”

Paisley was confused. “What are you talking about? Your brother’s name is not in Andy’s file.”

Diana nodded and got the file. She looked through it and pulled out a few papers. “This is his original birth certificate. It lists his name as Zaiden Andrew. His last name has been blacked out. It has the mother’s name blacked out. The father is listed as Unknown.”

“Right. So how do we know that your brother is Andy’s dad?”

“My father took the child that Izaiah’s wife had given birth to and gave him to the judge and her husband in return for the judge giving Colleen the death penalty.”

02-17-18_1-05-19 PM

Paisley nodded. “I know all of that.  How do we know it is Andy?”

“The name that Colleen gave her son before she died was Zaiden Andrew.”

It was starting to look like Diana may be right.

“What about the twins? They are listed as Andy’s brothers.”

“The judge had recently given birth before she was arrested. The twins are the judge’s kids. The judge that adopted Andy. So that made them legally brothers.”

Paisley knew that it was a big possibility. “What do you want to do?”

“Get a paternity test done on Andy to make sure. My brother has one that was done when his son was a newborn. If they match, then it is only right that Izaiah gets his son back.”

Paisley nodded. “Okay. What about the twins?”

“They stay with us. Andy will still get to see them. They would be cousins after all.”

Paisley stood up. “I’m going to go clean up from dinner.”

Diana let her go. She knew that was Paisley’s way of processing things. She cleaned when she had things she needed to think about.

02-17-18_1-25-24 PM

Diana went out to the living area and saw Andy watching something on tv with Dax. If the tests did show what she suspected they would, she was going to miss Andy. Only seeing him occasionally would not be the same as having him with her every day.

It took a few months but the paternity test showed exactly what they suspected. They went through the court to change custody of Zaiden to his father. The judge did order Izaiah to find a home that was large enough for the growing family. The two bedroom apartment they were living in would not work for the three of them, especially if they planned to have any more children.

They did find a much larger place in another area of the city. Both boys would have their own room instead of squeezing into the small room that Zander had been using in the old place.

02-17-18_3-57-27 PM

Callie checked on Zaiden and found him playing on the computer. “Do you have your homework done?”

Zaiden was only in kindergarten, but his teacher had sent home some reading for him to do and a worksheet that he did not get finished in class.

“Yes. Dad helped me with it.” He never took his eyes off the game he was playing.

“Bedtime in an hour.”

02-17-18_2-23-32 PM

Callie left the room to go check on Zander. She watched Izaiah playing with him and smiled.

“Talking to dolls now?”

“When my son asks me to, yes.”

02-17-18_2-35-24 PM

He stood up and smiled at his wife. “Is it bedtime for Zander already?”

“Bath time first, then bedtime.”

“I’ll give him his bath tonight. You did last night.”

Callie kissed her husband’s cheek. “Thank you. I told Zaiden that he still has an hour before bedtime. He is on the computer playing one of those Sims games.”

02-17-18_3-44-03 PM

“Sims. Who ever thought to make a game where you get to control the lives of virtual people? Crazy.”

1:21 Marry You

Izaiah searched the apartment for Callie. He found her and Zander watching yet another cooking show.

“You need to get dressed. My mother will be here to pick you up soon. Kaitlyn is going to babysit Zander while we are gone.”

Callie looked at him confused. Did he finally remember that Valentine’s Day had been a few days ago?

“Where are we going?”

“To get married.”

02-14-18_8-34-20 PM

She must have heard him wrong. He must have meant that they were going to a wedding that he had forgotten to tell her about.

She watched him walk out of the room before she could say anything to him. She looked at Zander setting on the sofa.

02-14-18_8-33-41 PM

“I think you daddy has gone crazy.”

02-14-18_10-07-49 PM

Izaiah had it all taken care of. While Callie was getting mad at him for not wanting to set a date and thinking that all of his time was being spent searching for Zaiden, he had actually been planning a wedding to surprise her.

02-14-18_11-23-16 PM

He hurried to the church to get there before Callie. He was happy to see that many of the guests he had invited were already there. Now he just had to wait for his bride to arrive.

02-14-18_11-30-36 PM

His first look at Callie in her wedding dress took his breath away. He had asked his sister-in-law to find the dress that Callie had shown him in one of those millions of bridal magazines she had kept trying to get him to look at. He knew that she had fallen in love with the dress. Now he could see why.

02-14-18_11-31-39 PM

“Izaiah, you are crazy. I can’t believe you did this.”

“Is this not what you want?”

“It is. I just thought…”

“You thought it was not what I wanted.

She nodded and looked down at the floor.

“I am sorry I made you feel that way, Callie. I know I have been distracted with trying to find Zaiden. You have been nothing but supportive of my search for him.”

“He’s your son, Izaiah. What kind of mother would I be if I could not understand a parent wanting their child with them?”

He softly caressed her cheek. “And that is one of the many things that I love about you.”

He took her hand in his. “Callie, will you please become my wife today?”

02-14-18_11-32-09 PM02-14-18_11-34-58 PM02-14-18_11-32-24 PM02-14-18_11-34-02 PM02-14-18_11-36-20 PM02-14-18_11-37-34 PM02-14-18_11-31-24 PM

During the ceremony and the pictures afterwards, Diana sat thinking about what she had heard Callie and Izaiah say before they exchanged vows. She knew that she needed to tell him. She couldn’t keep it from him.

“Izaiah, can we talk? I have something important to tell you.”

1:20 Block Party

02-13-18_6-05-03 PM

Izaiah got a call from his sister. That was very unexpected since his sister hadn’t talked to him in in a few years. His mother had told him that she got married again and adopted a few kids. Who she had married had been a big surprise, but if she was happen, then he was happy for her.

Let me lay this out for you. Izaiah’s sister, Diana, had been first married to Noah Ford. Yes, THAT Noah Ford. The prosecutor who had also been Colleen’s rough customer. Noah had left Diana and took their son, Dax, with him. He then married a woman named Paisley. When all hell broke lose and Noah ended up in jail, Diana got Dax back. She also fell for Paisley and they married. Together they adopted three kids of mixed race. They also had their eggs mixed with donor sperm and had their own kid. Together they are now raising five boys and a dog.

Back to the phone call. Diana was calling to invite her brother and his family to visit Brindleton Bay so the kids could get to know each other. He hadn’t been back to Brindleton Bay since he moved from there six years earlier. Since Diana still lived in the same neighborhood, he would stop and visit Colleen’s grave. That is if, the current owners of the house hadn’t removed it and if they didn’t mind. He would take flowers just in case.

After stopping by the old house and leaving flowers for Colleen, they headed for Diana’s house. He saw the kids playing outside and smiled. The kids could easily pass for being hers or her wife’s.

02-13-18_6-14-54 PM

“Uncle Izaiah!”

“Dax!” He gave his nephew a big hug. “You want to introduce me to your brothers?”

“The older one is Andy.” He pointed them out as he named them. “Tyrell is the twin with the glasses. The other one is Tyrese. The one with the long curly hair is Kendrick.”

Izaiah had to admit, he was a bit jealous. Diana had the big family he had always wanted. “Where is your mom?”

“She is in the house. We are waiting for Mama P to get home from work.”

Izaiah went inside to talk to his sister. Callie stayed outside with the kids.”

02-13-18_6-18-07 PM

The first time seeing his sister since he left Brindleton Bay did not go as he had hoped. He had hoped for a happy reunion. Instead she glared at him across the room.

“After five years, you would think you would be happy to see me.”

“Why should I be?”

“You called and asked me to come. Why?”

“For the kids. I didn’t do it for you.”

02-13-18_6-20-00 PM

He sat down beside his sister. “Why do you hate me so much?”

“Because of her.”

“Callie? You’ve never even met her.”

02-13-18_6-20-12 PM

“Not Callie, you idiot! Colleen. I warned you about her before you married her.”

“Really? This is about Colleen? She has been dead for over five years. Why are you still so damn pissed at me about her?”

“You didn’t listen and she destroyed both of our lives.”

“How the fuck did she destroy your life?”

“She fucked my husband. Isn’t that enough?”

02-13-18_6-20-23 PM

He looked at her kind of amazed she said that. “She fucked your husband and that destroyed your life? YOU WERE ALREADY DIVORCED!”

“She fucked our father. You can’t tell me that doesn’t bother you.”

He shook his head. “I don’t blame her for any of that, Diana. You know she was had no choice. You saw the news articles. I know you did. You know what Dad was arrested and sent to prison. Noah was sent for the same reason.”

“I can’t believe you, Izaiah. She ruined your life and you still love her.”

He nodded. “I do. I know that what she did was not her fault. I just wish it wasn’t too late to tell her.” He got up and left the room. He needed to calm himself back down.

02-13-18_6-21-04 PM

“He is a damn idiot. Still in love with that damn dead whore.”

Izaiah went back outside with the kids. He needed to get away from his sister. He was starting to regret coming for this visit.

02-13-18_6-24-31 PM

“So you are Uncle Izaiah. Dax talks about you a lot.”

Izaiah stopped and looked at the boy. “You are Andy, right?”

“Yes. You want to know a secret?”

02-13-18_6-29-10 PM

Izaiah leaned down to hear what Andy had to say just as Diana came outside.

“You are still here?”

He stood up and nodded. “I’m leaving. I just stopped to say goodbye to my nephews. Is that a problem?”

“I guess not. Just make it quick and get out of here.”

02-13-18_6-28-36 PM

Izaiah hugged his nephews then headed out. He wasn’t in the mood to listen to more bitching from Diana.

02-13-18_6-25-07 PM

“Bye, Uncle Izaiah!”

He turned back to wave at Andy before leaving.

02-13-18_6-26-59 PM

1:19 Haven’t Met You Yet

Ages: Zaiden = 5; Nicholas and Tyron = 4; Zander = 2

02-13-18_2-40-16 PM

Izaiah was checking the mail when he heard a voice behind him. He turned and saw the woman standing by the elevator. He had no clue who she was.

“Can I help you with something?”

02-13-18_2-39-14 PM

“Are you Izaiah Maynard?”

He was a bit worried. How did she know his name when he didn’t know his. “I may be. Why do you want to know?”

“I have a message from Tony.” She handed him a sealed envelope. It had his name and address written on it in Tony’s handwriting.

“Thank you.”

02-13-18_2-39-25 PM

He looked up to see she was already gone. He opened the envelope and read the note inside.

Kimber Rodrigues-El Karman
Willow Creek

He knew that if it was from Tony, then it was a good lead. Tony wouldn’t have sent it if it wasn’t.

He got into the elevator to head to see this Kimber person.

02-13-18_2-28-46 PM

He saw the woman in the yard playing with a young child. He felt his heart start to race. Could this be…?

He shook his head. It couldn’t be Zaiden. Zaiden would be bigger than this boy. This kid looked like he was only a year or two old. Zaiden would be just turning five and getting ready to go to school soon, if he wasn’t already in preschool.

“Excuse me. I’m looking for someone named Kimber.”

02-13-18_2-29-17 PM

The woman stood up and looked at him. “That would be me. Are you Izaiah?”

He was a bit taken aback by the fact that she knew his name. “I am. I was sent…”

“I know why you are here. As I told the man who came here before, I do not know where your son is. I’m sorry.”

“Why would he send me to you then?”

“From what I know, I was at the same youth center as the boy. Unfortunately I do not remember anybody named Zaiden there.”

“But the lady I talked to said he had been there.”

“Sometimes the names change. Especially if the child is very young. It is possible that he was there the same time as I was, but with a different name.”

He had never thought of that. That was going to make the search even harder.

“If you had a picture of him, I could possibly tell you if he was there when I was.”

Izaiah shook his head. “I don’t. He was adopted a few days after he was born.

“Mama, pway!”

“In a minute, Imani. Let me finish talking to this nice man first.” Kimber looked at Izaiah again. “I am sorry I couldn’t be of more help. I hope you find your son.”

“You have been a lot of help. I had never thought about a name change. You gave me another avenue to look down. Thank you.”

When he got home, he heard Callie and Zander in the office watching some cooking show and talking. He went in and didn’t have to say anything. Callie had seen the look of defeat on his face before.

Callie kissed Izaiah’s cheek. “I will fix dinner. You and Zander can spend some time together. He had been chatting up a storm today.”

Izaiah watched Callie leave the room. He knew she was still mad at him because he wouldn’t agree on a wedding date. He wanted his son to be at their wedding.

He looked down at his son who was standing in front of him.

“Up, Daddy.”

Izaiah picked up Zander and couldn’t help smile. He adored Zander. How could anybody not?

“Daddy sad?” He felt the tiny hands on his cheeks.

“Daddy sad. But Daddy is always happy to see Zander.”

When Zander snuggled into him, he felt his heart melting. He loved his son.

Izaiah looked at the building through the gates. Was this really the place where they took Zaiden? This run down brick building with broken kids toys in the yard? He really hoped that Zaiden was there so he could get him out of this dump and home where he belonged.

He talked to the woman who came outside for a few minutes. “I am looking for my son. I was told he was here. His name is Zaiden. He would be two years old now.”

The woman looked the man over. The boy did not look anything like this man. “There was a Zaiden here.”

“You said was? Is he not here any longer.”

The woman shook her head. “He was adopted this morning. He is with his new family now.”

Izaiah felt her words like a punch in the gut. He was a day too late. “Who adopted him?”

“I cannot tell you that. It was a private adoption.”

‘Lady, you don’t understand. My father had given him away after my wife died. He is all I have left of my wife. I need to find him.”

The woman looked like she couldn’t have cared less. She just turned and walked off into the yard.

“Please. I need to find my son. I need to find Zaiden.”

When he got no answer, he walked back home.

He had been so close.

His friends found him once. They can find him again.

Instead of going to his own apartment, he stopped at his family’s door. He wanted…no he needed to see his mother. He knew she would understand what he was going through and would listen without judging or telling him to give up. That was what he needed at the moment.

The moment he saw his mother, he almost broke down in tears. He hadn’t noticed how much all of the stress of the past couple years had aged her.

When she hugged him, it felt just like it had when he was a kid. He missed that more than he realized.

“It is nice to see you, Izaiah. I thought that you living across the hall, I would see more of you.”

“I’m sorry, Mama. I have been very busy.” He felt bad that he wasn’t spending more time with her. “I have been out every day trying to find Zaiden.”

“I have heard. Your brother told me. Have you had any luck yet?”

He nodded and sighed at the same time. “I know where he was yesterday. I went to the youth center where he had been taken after the people dad gave him to were arrested.”

“Did you get to see him?”

He could hear the hope in his mother’s voice.

02-11-18_9-10-08 PM

He shook his head. “He was adopted this morning. He was already gone. The woman refused to tell me where he was.”

His mother gave him a comforting hug. “I am sorry, dear.”

“Me too, Mama. I’m not giving up though.”

His mother smiled at him and nodded. “That’s my boy. I do have something for you. I found it in your father’s safe in the bedroom this morning. I think you need to have this.

Izaiah looked at the envelope his mother put in his hand. “What is this?”

“Something that will ensure that you are doing the right thing. I do not know exactly how your father did it, but I have my suspicions. I think I also know why.”

Now his interest was peaked. He opened the envelope and read the papers inside. He looked up at his mother in disbelief. “Are these for real? Dad had a paternity test done on Zaiden?”

“It seems so. Now you find my grandson and bring him home where he truly belongs.” She put her hand on her son’s arm. “But do not forget to take care of Callie and that baby also. Do not put all of your attention on Zaiden. Your fiance and child need you to be there for them too.”

He nodded and kissed his mother’s cheek. “Thank you, Mama. I will find Zaiden and take care of all three of them.”

He thought of Callie and their baby and smiled.

He was happy to have found her and to have her in his life.
